Dohnovan West was born on May 19, 2001, in Los Angeles, California, and grew up in Mission Hills, California. He attended Bishop Alemany High School, where he began his football career. West continued his collegiate football journey at Arizona State University, where he played for three seasons. During his freshman year, he earned the starting center position for the Arizona State Sun Devils. His consistent performance led to him being named second-team All-Pac-12 Conference as a junior in 2021. Following this achievement, West decided to forgo his remaining collegiate eligibility and declared for the 2022 NFL Draft.
After going undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft, West signed with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent on May 2, 2022. He was subsequently waived by the team on August 29, 2022. In 2023, West continued his professional career when he was selected by the Vegas Vipers in the 2023 XFL Draft. He played in all 10 games for the Vegas Vipers that season, starting in seven of them. The Vegas Vipers later folded following the merger of the XFL and USFL to form the United Football League (UFL).
In January 2024, West was selected by the St. Louis Battlehawks during the 2024 UFL dispersal draft and signed with the team on January 30, 2024. He played in 9 games for the Battlehawks in 2024 and 10 games (6 starts) in 2025. He had a brief stint with the Arizona Cardinals, signing on August 20, 2025, but was waived five days later. On October 11, 2025, he signed with the Dallas Renegades of the United Football League (UFL).
