Joseph Andrew Starkey, born on November 4, 1993, in Asheville, North Carolina, began his journey in acting with a strong academic foundation. Growing up predominantly in Hickory, North Carolina, he engaged in sports like baseball and basketball and developed musical skills playing guitar and piano. His interest in acting solidified during high school after joining a drama class. He went on to graduate magna cum laude from Western Carolina University in 2016, holding double majors in English and Theater Performance. Following his graduation, Starkey moved to Atlanta to pursue acting full-time, later relocating to Los Angeles to further his career.
Starkey’s career gained momentum with supporting roles in notable films such as “Love, Simon” (2018), where he played Garrett Laughlin, and “The Hate U Give” (2018) as Officer 115. These early roles established his presence in the industry. A significant turning point in his career arrived in 2020 with his role as Rafe Cameron in the Netflix series “Outer Banks.” This portrayal brought him widespread recognition and a dedicated fan base. He continued to expand his filmography with roles in “The Devil All the Time” (2020) as Tommy Matson and “Hellraiser” (2022) as Trevor, showcasing his versatility across different genres.
