Notorious footballing hard man Duncan Ferguson, often known as ‘Big Dunc’, is a legend for Merseyside club Everton. The towering centre forward won the Scottish Premier Division with Rangers and the FA Cup with Everton. He began his legendary career at Dundee United in 1990, and moved to Glasgow mega club Rangers in 1993 for what was then a British transfer record fee. He spent the remainder of his career in England where he became a Premier League icon for his no nonsense attitude. He moved to Everton in 1994, then had a stint with Newcastle United, before finishing his career at his beloved Everton. Famously, the lethal striker has scored more goals than any other Scottish player in England’s Premier League.
Ferguson’s aggressive style of play resulted in nine red cards in his career, earning him a cult-like following in English football. Eight of those red cards were in the Premier League, where he holds the joint record for most dismissals. Everton fans also loved to call him ‘Duncan Disorderly’ due to his entertaining escapades on the pitch.
Ferguson is now enjoying a successful career as a coach. The Everton icon was even named as the team’s caretaker manager until Carlo Ancelotti was appointed as head coach, at which point Ferguson was made assistant manager. Ferguson continues to be in the coaching staff at Everton and is considered to be a vital part of the club’s future success.
