United States Edgar Bennett has transitioned from a successful NFL running back to an offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach, bringing strategic leadership to various professional football teams.
Edgar Bennett enters his first season with the Jacksonville Jaguars as wide receivers coach in 2025 and his 21st season coaching in the NFL.
Bennett returned to the Packers in 2001 as director of player programs and then held the title of director of player development over the next three years. He later coached running backs and wide receivers, eventually serving as offensive coordinator.
Edgar Bennett was born on February 15, 1969, in Jacksonville, Florida. He attended Robert E. Lee High School, where he excelled in football, basketball, and track, earning Class 4A All-State recognition as a running back. His collegiate career at Florida State University showcased his versatility as a running back, accumulating over 2,300 all-purpose yards and 20 touchdowns. Bennett ran a 4.5 40-yard dash and recorded 93 receptions for over 1,000 yards during his time at Florida State, establishing himself as a significant offensive threat. He was recognized for his performance by being named Second Team All-South Independent in both 1990 and 1991, and was later inducted into the Florida State Athletic Hall of Fame.
Bennett’s professional playing career began in 1992 when the Green Bay Packers selected him in the fourth round (103rd overall) of the NFL Draft. He initially played as a fullback before becoming the starting running back in 1995, rushing for 1,067 yards. During his tenure with the Packers, he also led the team in receptions, demonstrating his dual-threat capability. A career highlight was winning Super Bowl XXXI with the Packers. His playing career with the Packers concluded after a ruptured Achilles tendon in the 1997 preseason sidelined him for the entire year. He then played two seasons with the Chicago Bears in 1998 and 1999 before retiring as a player.
Following his playing career, Bennett transitioned into coaching and front office roles. He rejoined the Green Bay Packers in 2001 as Director of Player Development. From 2005 to 2010, he served as the running backs coach for the Packers. In 2011, he moved to wide receivers coach, a position he held until 2014. From 2015 to 2017, he was promoted to offensive coordinator for the Packers. In 2018, Bennett joined the Oakland Raiders as their wide receivers coach, continuing with the team through its transition to Las Vegas until 2024. Most recently, in 2025, he was hired as the wide receivers coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars, marking his return to his home state.
