Egypt Alise Sherrod was born on November 16, 1976, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She began her career in radio at a young age, hosting on a jazz station at 18 and becoming the nation’s youngest radio station music director at 19. Her broadcasting career grew, leading her to become the number one radio personality for New York City’s WBLS 107.5, where she interviewed notable figures such as Prince, Tyler Perry, and Oprah. This program was syndicated in over 60 cities across the US, and she also served as a correspondent on the ‘Maury’ show. Parallel to her media career, Sherrod pursued her interest in real estate, influenced by her father and uncle, both real estate brokers. She purchased her first home at 24 and became a licensed agent in 2002, initially viewing it as a “fallback” and a way to build retirement funds.
Her career took a significant turn when she was approached to host ‘Property Virgins’ for HGTV. She secured the role and later continued on with ‘Flipping Virgins.’ In March 2012, Sherrod relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, to become the midday host of WVEE V-103, conducting interviews with celebrities. To accommodate her new role, ‘Property Virgins’ moved its filming to Atlanta. Sherrod eventually shifted her focus entirely to television, moving away from radio. She has made recurring appearances on NBC’s Today Show, CNBC, FOX, CNN, and HLN, offering expertise on home buying and selling. Her contributions also extend to print and digital platforms like Fast & Company, Yahoo, Homes.com, Rolling Stone, and Black Enterprise. Sherrod authored ‘Keep Calm…It’s Just Real Estate: Your No-Stress Guide To Buying A Home’ and ‘Ignite Joy.’
In recent years, Sherrod and her husband, Mike Jackson, have become central figures on HGTV. They served as judges on Season 2 of ‘Rock the Block’ in 2021 and competed in Season 3 in 2022. Since December 2022, they have starred in ‘Married to Real Estate,’ a series focused on renovating properties into dream homes. This show was nominated for a 2022 Critics’ Choice Real TV Award for Best Lifestyle: Home/Garden Show and a 2025 Daytime Emmy in the Outstanding Instructional/How-To category. Sherrod is also the CEO & Managing Broker of the Atlanta-based residential brokerage Indigo Road Realty, and principal designer at Indigo Road Design Group and Indigo Road Home Furnishings. In 2008, she established The Egypt Cares Family Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to financial empowerment.
