Esther Cañadas was born on March 1, 1977, in Albacete, Spain. Although she initially considered a career in criminology, her mother encouraged her to pursue modeling. This led Cañadas to relocate, first to Barcelona, then to Milan, and eventually to New York, establishing the foundation of her career in the fashion industry. Her distinctive look and confident demeanor quickly gained recognition, leading to a significant presence on international runways and in major advertising campaigns throughout the 1990s and early 2000s.
Throughout her modeling career, Cañadas walked for numerous high-profile designers, including Chloé, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, Chanel, Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, Alexander McQueen, Yves Saint Laurent, Valentino, Moschino, Custo Barcelona, and Givenchy. She was a favored face for renowned fashion brands, featuring in campaigns for Versace, Gianfranco Ferré, Armani, Oscar de la Renta, Jean Paul Gaultier, Carolina Herrera, Fendi, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, and Dior. Cañadas expanded her career into acting, making her film debut in 1999 with a minor role in the action/romance film “The Thomas Crown Affair.” She continued to take on acting roles in films such as “Torrente 2: Misión en Marbella” (2001) and “Trileros” (2003), as well as the TV movie “Enslavement: The True Story of Fanny Kemble” (2000). In 2020, she returned to the catwalk for the Gran Finale of Balmain’s show during Paris Fashion Week, demonstrating her enduring impact and presence in the fashion world. In 2024, Models.com recognized her lasting influence by adding her to its list of Industry Icons, acknowledging her stellar career achievements.
