United States Gary Kubiak has had a distinguished career in American football, transitioning from NFL player to a highly successful coach and executive. His journey includes winning multiple Super Bowl titles and leading teams to significant milestones over nearly four decades in the sport.

Gary Kubiak was born on August 15, 1961, in Houston, Texas. His early career began as a standout athlete at St. Pius X High School, where he excelled in football, basketball, baseball, and track, earning all-state honors multiple times and setting a state record for passing yards. He continued his football career at Texas A&M University, where he was recognized on the All-Southwest Conference team in 1982 after leading the conference in passing yards and touchdowns. In the 1983 NFL draft, Kubiak was selected by the Denver Broncos. He spent nine seasons as a backup quarterback for John Elway, participating in three AFC Championship teams and two Super Bowls (XXI and XXIV).
Kubiak transitioned into coaching, starting at his alma mater, Texas A&M, as a running backs coach from 1992 to 1993. In 1994, he moved to the NFL as the quarterbacks coach for the San Francisco 49ers, where he earned his first Super Bowl ring (XXIX) guiding quarterback Steve Young. He joined the Denver Broncos coaching staff in 1995 as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, a role he held for 11 seasons. During this period, he contributed to two more Super Bowl victories (XXXII and XXXIII). As head coach of the Houston Texans from 2006 to 2013, he achieved the franchise’s first winning season, division title, and playoff victory. After a stint as offensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens in 2014, he returned to the Denver Broncos as head coach in 2015, leading them to victory in Super Bowl 50, making him the first person to win a Super Bowl with the same team as both a player and head coach.
Throughout his career, Kubiak has been recognized for his consistent performance and leadership. He led the Texans to a franchise-best 12-4 record in 2012 and was named AFC Coach of the Year by NFL 101 in 2011. His tenure as head coach of the Broncos saw a 12-4 record in 2015, culminating in the Super Bowl 50 championship. He later served as the Minnesota Vikings’ assistant head coach and offensive advisor (2019) and offensive coordinator (2020) before retiring from coaching in January 2021. Kubiak also held executive roles, including Senior Personnel Adviser for the Denver Broncos from 2017 to 2018 and coaching advisor for Panthers Wrocław since 2022, demonstrating his enduring commitment to the sport.
