Geoff Charles Ogilvy was born on June 11, 1977, in Adelaide, South Australia. He turned professional in May 1998, beginning his career on the European Tour in 1999 and 2000. During these early years, he steadily improved, finishing 65th in his first season and 48th in his second. In 2001, Ogilvy transitioned to the U.S. based PGA Tour, consistently finishing within the top 100 players for five consecutive seasons. His first professional tournament victory came in 2005 at the PGA Tour’s Chrysler Classic of Tucson, where he won in a playoff.
Ogilvy’s career reached a significant milestone in 2006 with two major victories. In February, he won the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, defeating Davis Love III. Later that year, he secured his first major championship at the 2006 U.S. Open. This win was particularly notable as he finished with crucial pars on the final two holes while competitors faced difficulties, marking him as the first Australian to win a men’s golf major since Steve Elkington in 1995. These successes propelled him into the top ten of the Official World Golf Rankings, reaching a career-high of Number 3 in June 2008.
Continuing his success, Ogilvy won his second World Golf Championship title at the 2008 WGC-CA Championship. He further demonstrated his match-play prowess by winning the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship for a second time in 2009. In January 2010, he started the PGA Tour season with a win at the SBS Championship. His final PGA Tour victory came in 2014 at the Barracuda Championship, a tournament played under the modified Stableford scoring system. Throughout his career, Ogilvy has accumulated 8 PGA Tour wins and 2 International wins, including the Australian PGA in 2008 and the Australian Open in 2010. He has also been a member of the International Team for the Presidents Cup in 2007, 2009, and 2011.
