United States George Pickens is a professional American football wide receiver known for his collegiate success and dynamic playmaking in the NFL.
George Pickens joined CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott in Dallas, forming a duo that could put itself among the best in the NFL in 2025. Pickens expressed gratitude for catching passes from Prescott and excitement to play alongside Lamb.
George Malik Pickens Jr. was born on March 4, 2001, in Hoover, Alabama, and raised in Birmingham. He attended Hoover High School, where he excelled in football, recording 69 receptions for 1,368 yards and 16 touchdowns as a senior. His impressive high school career included a notable game on November 16, 2018, where he accumulated 202 receiving yards. Following high school, Pickens initially committed to Auburn University before ultimately deciding to play college football at the University of Georgia, graduating from Hoover High School in June 2019.
Pickens quickly made an impact at Georgia, leading the team in receptions (49), receiving yards (727), and receiving touchdowns (8) in his freshman year in 2019. In the COVID-19 pandemic-shortened 2020 season, he continued to perform, catching 36 passes for 513 yards and six touchdowns. A significant setback occurred in the spring of 2021 when he tore his ACL, causing him to miss most of his junior season. However, he returned for the final four games, making a crucial 52-yard reception in Georgia’s victory over Alabama in the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship game, a play that helped set up an important field goal for the Bulldogs. After his college career, Pickens declared for the 2022 NFL Draft.
He was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the second round (52nd overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft. Pickens made his professional debut in Week 1 of the 2022 season. In Week 3, he made a one-handed catch against the Cleveland Browns which was widely recognized as a “Catch of the Year” candidate. He finished his rookie season with 52 receptions for 801 yards and four receiving touchdowns. In his second NFL season in 2023, he recorded 63 receptions for 1,140 yards and five touchdowns in 17 games, leading the league in yards per reception with 18.1. In May 2025, Pickens was traded to the Dallas Cowboys, where he has continued to demonstrate his receiving prowess, with notable performances including a 168-yard game against the Carolina Panthers in Week 6 of the 2025 season.
