Giovanni Cernogoraz is a distinguished Croatian sports shooter renowned for his exceptional achievements in trap shooting. Cernogoraz’s dedication and perseverance culminated in his qualification for the 2012 Olympic Games in London, following a triumphant victory at the ISSF World Cup in Beijing in 2011. His Olympic journey was nothing short of remarkable; he secured a spot in the final by finishing sixth in the qualifying rounds. In the final, he showcased his exceptional talent by scoring 24 out of 25 targets, ultimately achieving a total score of 146, which equaled the Olympic record. This performance led to a thrilling shoot-off, where he triumphed over Italy’s Massimo Fabbrizi to claim the gold medal, marking a historic moment for Croatia as it was the nation’s first Olympic gold in shooting.
In addition to his Olympic success, Cernogoraz has also excelled on the European stage, winning gold in team trap at the 2012 European Shotgun Championships alongside his teammates, brothers Anton and Josip Glasnović.
