Glenn Howerton

Glenn Franklin Howerton III was born on April 13, 1976, in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. His early life was characterized by frequent international moves due to his father’s role as a fighter pilot, with residences in England, South Korea, and various U.S. states before settling in Montgomery, Alabama. Howerton pursued higher education at the New World School of the Arts in Miami before attending the prestigious Juilliard School’s Drama Division, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2000. These formative experiences contributed to his ability to mimic various dialects, a skill noted in his acting career.

Howerton’s acting career began in the early 2000s, with his debut in the made-for-television movie “Monday Night Mayhem” (2002). He also took on a main role as Corey Howard in the sitcom “That ’80s Show” (2002) and guest-starred in the medical drama “ER” (2003). His early film credits included supporting roles in “Must Love Dogs” (2005), “Serenity” (2005), “Two Weeks” (2006), and “The Strangers” (2008), as well as appearances in “Crank” (2006) and its sequel “Crank: High Voltage” (2009). These foundational roles provided a platform for his later substantive work.

A significant turning point in Howerton’s career occurred in 2005 with the co-creation and starring role in “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” Alongside Rob McElhenney and Charlie Day, he developed the series and plays Dennis Reynolds, a character he also writes and executive produces. The show achieved critical and popular success, and by 2021, it became the longest-running live-action American comedy series. This project highlighted his multifaceted talents as an actor, writer, and producer. Beyond “Always Sunny,” he has appeared in “The Mindy Project” (2012–2017), “Fargo” (2014), and had the lead role in “A.P. Bio” (2018–2021). His notable film performance as Jim Balsillie in “BlackBerry” (2023) garnered critical acclaim and multiple award nominations, demonstrating his range beyond comedy.
