Gretel Bueta

Gretel Bueta has transitioned from a successful basketball player to a prominent netball star, recognized for her dynamic movement and impactful play on the court. After being named WNBL Rookie of the Year in 2011, Gretel Bueta solidified her early career as a formidable basketball talent. During the 2010/2011 season, she played for the Australian Institute of Sport in the Women’s National Basketball League, followed by a season with Logan Thunder in 2011/2012. Bueta represented Australia in three junior World Championships, competing in the 2009 U/19 World Championships (5th place), the 2010 U/17 World Championships (7th place), and the 2011 U/19 World Championships (4th place).

In March 2012, Bueta transitioned to netball, quickly making an impact. She played as a replacement for the Queensland Firebirds in 2013 and earned selection for the Australian U/21 netball team, securing a silver medal at the World Youth Netball Championship in Glasgow the same year. Bueta continued her rapid ascent in netball, making her ANZ Championship debut in 2014 with the NSW Swifts. She returned to the Queensland Firebirds in 2015, where she has consistently demonstrated her dynamic play as a goal attack and goal shooter.

Her exceptional performance led to another Super Netball Team of the Year selection in 2022. The pinnacle of her recent achievements came at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, where she was a key player in Australia’s gold medal victory, contributing significantly with 253 goals and an outstanding 96% shooting accuracy throughout the tournament. Gretel Bueta remains a leading figure in netball, celebrated for her athleticism and consistent high-level performance.
