Hamish McLachlan

Hamish McLachlan, born on August 28, 1975, in Adelaide, South Australia, is an Australian sports broadcaster. He pursued his education at St Peter’s College, Adelaide, and later graduated with a commerce degree from the University of Adelaide. His career in sports began in 1998 with Elite Sports Properties (ESP) in sports management. As the general manager of the Events and Entertainment Division, McLachlan was involved in significant international sporting events, including the 2000 Summer Olympics, the 2002 Winter Olympics, the 2002 FIFA World Cup, and the 2002 Commonwealth Games. In 2004, he became a director of the Australian Football Hall of Fame and Sensation exhibition in Melbourne, co-founding Spyglass Management, which held the license for the Hall of Fame.

In January 2008, McLachlan joined the Seven Network, marking the start of his media career. He covered the Australian tennis season, with a focus on the Australian Open, where he conducted live interviews and filmed segments. He advanced to host afternoon sessions in 2011 and became the anchor for prime time sessions from 2013 to 2018. During this period, in March 2008, McLachlan began hosting “AFL Game Day,” a television program reviewing Australian Rules Football. He also became a match-day commentator for Triple M radio, covering Saturday-night and Sunday-afternoon AFL matches. His roles at Seven Network expanded to include co-hosting the Brownlow Medal ‘Blue Carpet’ ceremonies in 2009 and 2011. McLachlan also covered the Spring Racing Carnival for Triple M and became a presenter for the Seven Network’s Melbourne Cup Carnival and other racing events.

His involvement with the Seven Network’s AFL team began in 2012 as a co-commentator for Saturday afternoon matches. By 2015, he was calling Sunday afternoon matches with Dennis Cometti and later Brian Taylor. He also hosted the network’s Friday night telecasts, providing pre-game and post-game analysis. In 2021, McLachlan transitioned to co-commentating Saturday night matches and Thursday night matches from 2022. Beyond AFL, he has called polo matches and established Ten Goals, a media and production unit focused on sports broadcasting. McLachlan has also been part of the Seven Network’s Olympic coverage team, hosting for the 2016 Summer Olympics, 2018 Winter Olympics, 2018 Commonwealth Games, 2022 Winter Olympics, and 2022 Commonwealth Games. He co-hosted the sports entertainment series “Australian Spartan” from 2018 to 2019 and has contributed written content to the Herald Sun newspaper.
