Heather Morris danced right into our hearts as Brittany S. Pierce on the TV musical phenomenon Glee. Morris’ road to her role on the show began in 2007, when she got the gig as a backup dancer for global icon Beyoncé Knowles-Carter. Morris performed on both The Beyoncé Experience world tour and the Single Ladies tour, with the latter including performances on the American Music Awards, Saturday Night Live and MTV’s Total Request Live finale. Morris danced backup for both Beyoncé and Tina Turner at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards.
Morris was pursuing an acting career when she was asked by choreographer Zach Woodlee, a longtime friend and collaborator, to teach Beyoncé’s iconic Single Ladies dance to the cast of Glee, as it was set to appear in a forthcoming episode. At the time, the show happened to looking for a third cheerleader to complete its ‘Unholy Trinity’, the nickname given to the trio of characters Santana, Quinn and Britney. Morris impressed so much as a dance teacher that she was ultimately cast as Britney, known as the best female dancer in the glee club.
In 2010, Morris was named the Celebrity Style Ambassador for FLIRT! Cosmetics, an Estee Lauder beauty line. The following year, she ranked number 2 on the Hot 100 list of lesbian and bisexual pop culture site AfterEllen. Top of the list was Naya Rivera, Morris’ off-screen best friend and on-screen girlfriend, Santana. The pair became beloved in the LGBTQ+ community for their portrayal as out lesbians on primetime TV. In 2019, Morris starred in the short drama film Dance with A Demon, which received Official Selection at the Vancouver Horror Show Film Festival. She is a frequently trending poster on Instagram, where she boasts 1.1 million followers and endorses the skin probiotic retailer Mother Dirt.
