Hitomi Kawabata, a player for the DENSO women's softball team, focused on her team amidst the anxieties caused by the spread of the new coronavirus, embodying the dedication of global athletes. This was highlighted in a social media post showcasing her commitment during challenging times.
Hitomi Kawabata was born in 1996 in Japan. She emerged as a prominent figure in the sport of softball, primarily playing as an infielder. Her early career saw her participate in the 2016 Women’s Softball World Championship, where her team secured a silver medal. This marked one of her initial international achievements.
Kawabata continued to build her career with consistent performances. In 2017, she earned a gold medal at the Asian Women’s Softball Championship in Taichung. The following year, 2018, was notable for her as she achieved another gold medal at the Asian Games in Jakarta-Palembang and a silver medal at the Women’s Softball World Championship in Chiba. Her progression culminated in her selection to represent Japan at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics. At the Olympics, she was part of the team that won the gold medal. Post-Olympics, Kawabata achieved a silver medal at the 2022 World Games in Birmingham and another gold medal at the 2019 Asian Women’s Softball Championship in Jakarta.
Currently, Kawabata plays for Denso Bright Pegasus, wearing jersey number 10. She also leads the JD.League in batting average, hitting .457 through the first 12 games of a recent season, securing 16 hits in 35 at-bats with two home runs. She has reached a significant milestone of 200 hits in the JD.League, demonstrating her consistent offensive capabilities.
