Isabel Atkin

Isabel Atkin was born on June 21, 1998, in Boston, Massachusetts, to an English father, Mike, and a Malaysian mother, Winnie. She began skiing at the age of three on Sugarloaf Mountain in Maine. To further her skiing career, her family relocated to Park City, Utah, when she was 14, where she attended the Winter Sports School. This specialized school allowed her to focus on skiing during the winter months, with its academic calendar running from April to November. Atkin holds dual British and US nationality but chose to compete for Great Britain, joining the GB Park & Pipe programme in the 2013–2014 season at the age of 15. She later enrolled at Colorado College in 2017, completing her graduation in 2022.

Atkin achieved a significant milestone in 2017, becoming the first British woman to win a World Cup event in ski slopestyle at Silvaplana. In the same year, she secured a bronze medal in slopestyle at the FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboarding World Championships in Sierra Nevada, Spain. She continued her strong performance by finishing fifth in the slopestyle final at the Dew Tour in Breckenridge, Colorado, after qualifying in second place. In January 2018, Atkin earned another bronze medal at the ski slopestyle World Cup held in Aspen Snowmass, Colorado. Her career highlight came at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, where she won a bronze medal in women’s slopestyle with a score of 84.60 points, marking Great Britain’s first Olympic skiing medal.

Following her Olympic success, Atkin continued to compete at a high level. At the 2019 World Championships, she secured a bronze medal in the big air event. In 2021, she earned a silver medal in the slopestyle event at the Winter X Games XXV in Aspen, despite sustaining a concussion during the competition. Atkin qualified for both slopestyle and big air events at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. However, due to a broken pelvis sustained seven weeks prior to the Games, she withdrew from both events to focus on rehabilitation, after initially attempting to compete.
