Jones quickly made an impact, leading Yale to its first Ivy League title since the 1962-63 season in 2001-02, culminating in a 21-11 record and securing the program’s first postseason tournament victory by upsetting Rutgers in the NIT first round. His early contributions were recognized with the Presidents Award from the Greater New Haven NAACP in 2002 and his first Ivy League Coach of the Year title that same year. By 2014, Jones had already broken the Yale school record for most wins by a men’s basketball coach. Jones coaching career continued its ascent with historic milestones, including his induction into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame in 2015.
His impact on the community is also notable through the James Jones Bulldog Basketball Camp.
