About

A Miami native, ‘Jammin Johnny’ Caride began his extensive career in radio in 1986. He started as a mixer at “Ritmo 98” WRTO and “Super Q 107.5” WQBA-FM, quickly establishing himself within the music scene. His early work showcased his talent for mixing and identifying emerging musical trends and artists. In 1995, Caride joined “Power 96” WPOW-FM, where he played a pivotal role in the global phenomenon of Los Del Rio’s “Macarena” in 1996. After hearing the song requested in clubs, he brought it to station management and created an English-language remix with Bayside Records, contributing to its widespread success.

Caride remained at WPOW-FM until 2003 before transitioning to Spanish Broadcasting System (SBS), where he was appointed Program Director for “El Zol 95.7” WXDJ, a station that later moved to 106.7 FM. In this role, he was recognized for championing genres such as freestyle and disco in the 1980s, and for being an early supporter of reggaeton. He provided significant platforms for artists like Daddy Yankee, Don Omar, Ivy Queen, Tego Calderón, Karol G, Maluma, J Balvin, Farruko, Maffio, J Alvarez, and Prince Royce. His leadership and programming vision were instrumental in establishing El Zol 106.7FM as a leading station in South Florida.

Beyond his radio work, Johnny Caride also co-launched “Jammin Johnny Weddings,” an exclusive division specializing in events, alongside professional wedding planner Jessica De Quesada. This venture, established after over 20 years of experience with his company The Party Player DJs, further demonstrated his entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to entertainment. Caride was a multiple nominee for Radio Ink’s Medallas de Cortez Award for Program Director of the Year, winning the accolade in 2018, and was recognized as one of Radio Ink’s Best Program Directors in Radio in 2023. He passed away on November 4, 2024, after a battle with cancer.
