Born Jeremy Clevenger Johnson on November 24, 1984, in Modesto, California, Jeremiah Brent spent his early life in Modesto, where his father worked as a deputy sheriff and his mother as a paralegal in San Francisco. He attended Modesto High School, graduating in 2002, and was active in drama, speech, and debate. At 19, in 2004, he moved to Los Angeles. Brent initially faced financial challenges, living in his Jeep and on friends’ couches during his first year in the city. His early experiences included living across from Covenant House, a shelter for homeless teens, which he later helped redesign, demonstrating an early commitment to design rooted in human experience.
Brent founded his design firm, Jeremiah Brent Design (JBD), in 2011. JBD is a full-service interior design firm with operations in Los Angeles and New York City. His career gained wider recognition when he appeared as a styling associate to Rachel Zoe on “The Rachel Zoe Project” in its fourth season in 2011. This led to further television appearances and features in publications such as “Domino,” “Architectural Digest,” “Harper’s Bazaar,” and “People” magazine.
His television career expanded significantly with roles including the host of the Emmy Award-winning show “Home Made Simple” on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network for two seasons. In 2017, he launched “Nate & Jeremiah by Design” on TLC alongside his husband, Nate Berkus, a show that chronicled their design projects. The couple also starred in “The Nate & Jeremiah Home Project” on HGTV, which premiered in 2021. In 2020, Brent took on the role of design expert in the Netflix reality series “Say I Do.” Most recently, Netflix announced in 2024 that Brent would join the cast of “Queer Eye” as the interior design expert for its ninth season, further solidifying his presence in popular culture and design. His firm has undertaken numerous residential and commercial projects, including the Vermont Ski House, Rhode Island, Montecito, Manhattan Penthouse Triplex, Tribeca, Hancock Park, West Village Townhouse, Montauk Estate, Beverly Hills, Park Avenue, DC Rowhouse, and commercial spaces like Atrio, The Optimist, True Botanicals, and Hollywood HQ.
