One of the greatest football managers of all time, Jose Mourinho has become known for his tactical prowess and big personality.
Mourinho was born in Portugal, and began his career playing football as a midfielder. He quickly realised this was not where his skills shone, and landed a role as an assistant to Sir Bobby Robson at Sporting CP. The pair later moved to Porto, where Mourinho also had the chance to work with Louis van Gaal. Soon, his potential to manage clubs and achieve great results was recognised, and he took all he had learned under Robson and van Gaal and applied it to Primeira Liga team Benfica. The young strategist then moved to Uniao de Leiria, before being named as manager for Porto in 2002. He brought great success to the club, helping them to victory at the UEFA Cup, the UEFA Champions League and two La Liga titles. By now, Mourinho was a highly sought after manager and in 2004 made the career defining move to Premier League club Chelsea. An FA Cup win, two League Cup titles and two Premier League victories followed before Mourinho applied this same skill and determination to Inter Milan, with whom he won the FIFA World Coach of the Year award.
Most recently, Mourinho has made a return to the Premier League, rejoining Chelsea in 2013 before landing the manager role at Manchester United. He now heads up Tottenham Hotspur, and remains one of the leading figures in the footballing world.
