Jimmy Garoppolo

James Richard Garoppolo, known as Jimmy Garoppolo, was born on November 2, 1991, in Arlington Heights, Illinois. He comes from a close-knit Italian family. Garoppolo attended Rolling Meadows High School, where he excelled as both a quarterback and linebacker for the Mustangs football team. He also played baseball as a pitcher. After high school, he committed to Eastern Illinois, choosing it over offers from Illinois State and Montana State. Garoppolo’s collegiate career at Eastern Illinois was distinguished; he played for the Panthers from 2010 to 2013, setting new school records for career passing yards and touchdowns. In 2013, his senior year, he received the Walter Payton Award, an honor given to the most outstanding offensive player in the Division I Football Championship Subdivision. He was also named the Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 2013, further highlighting his exceptional performance during his college tenure.

Garoppolo was selected by the New England Patriots in the second round of the 2014 NFL draft as the 62nd overall pick. In his four seasons with the Patriots, he served as Tom Brady’s backup and was part of two Super Bowl-winning teams (XLIX and LI). In October 2017, he was traded to the San Francisco 49ers. This move marked a turning point, as he helped transform a 1–10 team by winning all five remaining games of the season. His successful performance led to a five-year, $137.5 million contract with the 49ers, which was, at the time, the largest contract in NFL history on an annual basis. His most notable season came in 2019 when he guided the 49ers to the top conference seed and a Super Bowl LIV appearance. He also spearheaded the team to an NFC Championship Game appearance in 2021. Injuries impacted his time in San Francisco, causing him to miss significant portions of the 2018 and 2020 seasons. After a season-ending injury in 2022, Garoppolo joined the Las Vegas Raiders for one year before signing with the Los Angeles Rams in 2024, where he currently serves as a backup quarterback.

Throughout his professional career, Garoppolo has consistently demonstrated a strong completion percentage, career 67.4% and an impressive passer rating. He has recorded 15,828 passing yards and 96 touchdowns over 82 career games, with 43 wins as a starter. These statistics reflect his consistent contribution to the teams he has played for.
