Jin Yun-seong competes internationally in weightlifting for South Korea. He was born in 1995 in Seocheon, Chungcheongnam-do, South Korea. His weight is 225 lb and his club is Goyang City Hall. Although he was raised in Korea, his father is from Taiwan. He used to have Taiwanese citizenship then had to give it up to weightlift for Korea.
Yun-seong began weightlifting in 2007 when he was age 12 on the recommendation of his physical education teacher. He then worked through the elite sports system in place in Korea. He started off competing in the 105 kg category before the classes were re-organised in 2018 by the IWF. Before the re-organisation, he snatched up to 180 kg at the 2017 World Championships in Anaheim. After the changes he moved down to the -102w kg classes. His coach is one of the national team head coaches Yeon Joowon who puts a lot of emphasis on classic lifts and technique while increasing the volume of training. He trains five times a week and is a dedicated athlete.
One of Jin Yun-seong’s most significant achievements was winning a silver medal in the 2019 World Championships in Pattaya. He won a gold medal with a 181 kg snatch and came in fourth place for the clean and jerk with 216 kg. His total was 397 Kg. His aim is to compete at the Olympics, now deferred to next year in Tokyo, saying, “It is every athlete’s dream.”
