Joe Corona quickly established himself as a dominant midfielder, debuting professionally with Club Tijuana on April 3, 2010, where he scored his first goal on August 29, 2010. His pivotal contributions led Tijuana to become Liga de Ascenso Apertura 2010 champions, securing their promotion to Mexico’s top flight in 2011. Corona marked this ascent by scoring Tijuana’s inaugural goal in the Primera División during the first game of the 2011 Apertura season and was subsequently named the Mexican top flights Newcomer of the Year. He continued to be instrumental in Club Tijuana’s success, helping them secure the prestigious Apertura 2012 title.
An accomplished international, Corona has earned 23 caps for the United States Men’s National Team, scoring 3 goals, and was a crucial player in their CONCACAF Gold Cup championship wins in both 2013 and 2017. In 2019, Corona transitioned to Major League Soccer, signing with LA Galaxy. He scored his first goal for the club on September 15, 2019, and completed his inaugural season with 1 goal and 3 assists across 31 regular season appearances. The following year, he again found the net and was named to the MLS Team of the Week.
Corona then signed with Houston Dynamo FC in 2020, where he recorded an assist in his debut on April 16, 2021, and made 30 appearances for the club during that season. Most recently, Corona expanded his international experience with a loan move to GIF Sundsvall in Sweden in 2022. He returned stateside to sign with San Diego Loyal in 2023, where he continued to demonstrate his calm on-ball presence and ability to contribute to offensive plays.
