Young American singer Johnny Sky is a Latin pop and bachata artist who first came to prominence with his self-titled debut album in 2015. The album yielded the singles ‘Quireme’ and ‘One More Night’ (a cover of the Maroon 5 track), both of which performed well on the Billboard Hot Latin Charts. He returned in 2020 with a new track, ‘La Mejor Version Di Me’, which quickly gained over 375,000 views on YouTube and many more streams on the likes of Spotify.
Sky was born in New York in 1997 to Dominican parents. He is a classically trained singer, having been a member of the children’s choir at the world-renowned Metropolitan Opera House in New York. His singing talent had been recognised early, and his parents made many financial sacrifices to help him get the best opportunities possible. During his time at the Met, he met the legendary Placido Domingo, who took the time to offer the young hopeful some valuable advice on staying true to oneself. Accordingly, Sky developed a style that remained true to both himself and his Dominican heritage. In 2020, he also came out to his fans via social media, relating afterwards how much freer he felt for it.
In 2014, Sky was signed to Sony subsidiary Premium Latin Music and released his first single, a cover of the U2 classic, ‘With or Without You’. His debut album followed the next year, and it contained his biggest hit to date, ‘Quireme’, which has achieved an incredible 27 million streams on Spotify alone. Now, with plenty of new material in the pipeline, Sky is looking to continue building on his strong foundations.
