Jonna Patricia Marie Sundling was born on December 28, 1994, in Umeå, Sweden. Her career in cross-country skiing began to take shape early, with her joining the Piteå Elit club. She quickly demonstrated her talent in junior competitions, securing gold medals at the Junior World Championships in 2013 for the 4 x 3.33 km relay and in 2014 for both individual sprint and the 4 x 3.33 km relay. Her progression continued into the U23 category, where she also earned a gold medal in individual sprint in 2016.
Sundling made her full World Cup debut, steadily climbing the ranks. Over several seasons, she consistently earned podium finishes in individual and team sprint events. A significant turning point came in the 2021 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, where she secured two gold medals in individual sprint and team sprint, establishing herself as a leading athlete in the sport. This success was followed by a remarkable performance at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, where she achieved one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal across different cross-country skiing events. Her Olympic gold came in the women’s sprint free.
Her achievements extend beyond the Olympics, with additional gold medals at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in 2023 for individual sprint and team sprint. Sundling has accumulated 12 individual World Cup victories and 39 podium finishes, along with 7 team victories across relays and team sprints. She has maintained a position within the top contenders in the World Cup overall and sprint standings, showcasing ongoing excellence in her discipline. Her career highlights also include multiple forecasted gold medals at the 2025 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Trondheim, underscoring her continued dominance in cross-country skiing.
