About

Josh Lucas was born Joshua Lucas Easy Dent Maurer in Little Rock, Arkansas, on June 20, 1971. His early life involved frequent relocation across the southern U.S. due to his parents’ politically active nature. The family eventually settled in Gig Harbor, Washington, where Lucas developed an interest in acting during high school. He excelled in dramatic interpretation, winning a State Championship and competing at the 1989 National Championship. Brief engagements in professional theater in Seattle preceded his move to Los Angeles to pursue a film career.

His early career included minor television appearances and roles in films such as “Class of ’61” (1993), produced by Steven Spielberg, and Frank Marshall’s “Alive” (1993). Feeling limited by these early roles, Lucas moved to New York City to further his acting studies under Suzanne Shepherd and participate in smaller theater productions. This move proved to be a turning point, leading to his casting as Judas in Terrence McNally’s controversial off-Broadway production “Corpus Christi” (1997). This theater work paved the way for significant film roles.

Following his move to New York, Lucas secured roles in films like “You Can Count on Me” (2000) and “American Psycho” (2000). He gained wider recognition with performances in the Oscar-winning “A Beautiful Mind” (2001) and the box-office success “Sweet Home Alabama” (2002). His career continued with prominent roles in various genres, including “Hulk” (2003), “Glory Road” (2006), where he gained 40 pounds to portray coach Don Haskins, and “Poseidon” (2006). He has also been involved in independent projects, documentary voice-over work with Ken Burns, and production through his company, “Two Bridges.” His recent work includes “Ford v Ferrari” (2019) and the TV series “Yellowstone” (2018–2022).
