American professional basketball player J. P. Macura is a shooting guard who has represented the USA. In February 2020 he was named a member of the USA Basketball Men’s AmeriCup Qualifying Team and went on to help his national team to a pair of wins against Puerto Rico in the FIBA AmeriCup qualifying tournament. After impressive high school and college careers he has enjoyed stints with the National Basketball Association (NBA)side Charlotte Hornets, Greensboro Swarm, Canton Charge, Cleveland Cavaliers and most recently Turkish Basketbol Süper Ligi team Afyon Belediye.
Born in Lakeville, Minnesota, the 6ft 5inch basketball ace attended Lakeville North High School where he achieved a school record 1,811 points in his high school career. The talented young player was offered scholarships from both Iowa State and Butler but committed to Xavier University to compete in the Big East Conference. Macura made a big impact in his college career, and his high energy during the 2015-16 season meant the Big East coaches voted him winner of the 2015-16 Big East Conference Sixth Man Award.
His professional career began with the Charlotte Hornets in 2018, and he signed a two-way contract which meant he split his time between the Hornets and Greensboro Swarm, their G League affiliate. Macural made his debut in the NBA on January 2, 2019. He then played for Canton Charge and Cleveland Cavaliers before signing with Turkish side Afyon Belediye in 2020.
