Juliet Grace Sear, born on April 29, 1974, in Rochford, England, developed an early passion for baking. Her career officially began in 2008 when she founded her cake bakery, Fancy Nancy, initially known as the Little Venice Cake Company, in Leigh-on-Sea. Her creations quickly gained recognition, leading to products being stocked in high-end stores such as Harvey Nichols and Fortnum & Mason. Concurrently, Sear shared her expertise by teaching at Leith’s School of Food and Wine and contributing articles to publications like LoveFood. Her debut book, “The Cake Decorating Bible,” was published in 2012, marking her entry into authorship and solidifying her status as a baking authority.
Throughout the 2010s, Sear continued to expand her reach. She was a featured expert at the 2013 Cake and Bake Show in Manchester, appearing alongside notable figures such as Paul Hollywood. In 2014, she became a UK ambassador for the American series “Cake Boss.” Sear’s custom cakes were commissioned by various public figures, including Peaches Geldof, Tom Daley, Alan Titchmarsh, and Fearne Cotton. Her second cookbook, “Cakeology,” was released in 2015. In 2016, she closed her bakery and relocated to London, signaling a shift towards her growing media presence and personal brand.
In 2017, Juliet Sear joined ITV’s daytime talk show “This Morning” as their resident baking expert, a role that significantly increased her public visibility. She also launched her YouTube channel and published her third cookbook, “Kawaii Cakes.” The following year, she released “Botanical Baking.” Her career reached another milestone in late 2019 when she hosted her own 10-part Sunday morning ITV series, “Beautiful Baking with Juliet Sear.” By this time, her clientele for custom cakes had expanded to include Ian McKellen, Louise Roe, Bryan Adams, and Prince Harry. Her recipes have been featured in BBC Good Food, Hello!, and SquareMeal. In 2021, she contributed edible characters for “The Great British Bake-Off” on Channel 4. In May 2024, HarperCollins acquired the rights to publish her sixth cookbook, “Air Fryer Baking Magic,” which subsequently became a Sunday Times bestseller. That same year, Sear joined the Guild of Food Writers and became an ambassador for Leukaemia UK, reflecting her continued engagement with her craft and wider community.
