Kagiso Rabada was born on May 25, 1995, in Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa. He made his international debut for South Africa in November 2014 in Twenty20 International cricket, followed by his One Day International (ODI) debut in July 2015, and his Test debut in November 2015. His talent was recognized early, as he was a key player for South Africa’s Under-19 team, which won the 2014 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, where he claimed 14 wickets with an economy rate of 3.10 and notable figures of 6/25 against Australia A.
Rabada quickly ascended the ranks of international cricket. By January 2018, he had achieved the top position in both the ODI bowler rankings and the Test bowler rankings at the age of 22. In July 2016, he became the first cricketer to win six awards at Cricket South Africa’s annual dinner, including Cricketer of the Year, a feat he repeated in June 2018, also winning Test and ODI Cricketer of the Year. He became the youngest bowler to take 150 wickets in Tests in July 2018. His domestic career includes playing for Gauteng and the Lions, as well as stints with Kent County Cricket Club in England and various teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL), including Delhi Daredevils (later Delhi Capitals) and Punjab Kings. In the IPL, he notably became the fastest bowler to reach 100 wickets in terms of matches played, achieving this in his 64th match in April 2023.
Throughout his career, Rabada has demonstrated consistent performance and achieved significant milestones. He took a hat-trick on his ODI debut in July 2015 against Bangladesh, with figures of 6/16. He further made history by becoming the first South African bowler to take a hat-trick in T20I cricket in November 2021 against England. Rabada was a member of the South African team that won the 2025 ICC World Test Championship final. In October 2024, he reached 300 Test wickets, becoming the 39th bowler globally to achieve this milestone. Beyond cricket, Rabada is also involved in other ventures, co-founding Kingdom Kome Productions in 2020, with their first project being a short film titled “The Ring of Beasts.”
