Born on October 5, 1993, in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Kara Royster developed an early interest in acting after observing her older sister. This passion led her to begin formal training at age five, attending acclaimed institutions such as Bak Middle School of the Arts and the Dreyfoos School of the Arts. At the age of 15, Royster proactively pursued her acting career by convincing her family to relocate to Los Angeles, California. There, she continued her education and theatrical training at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, majoring in Theatre. Beyond her on-screen presence, Royster also honed her skills as a makeup artist, contributing to numerous photo shoots and music videos.
Royster’s career progression highlights include her television debut in 2012 with roles in “This Indie Thing,” “Fred: The Show,” and “Hollywood Heights.” A pivotal period in her career was from 2014 to 2017, where she gained recognition through recurring roles as Brandi in MTV’s “Faking It” (6 episodes), Yvonne Phillips in Freeform’s “Pretty Little Liars” (7 episodes), Abby Martin in Disney Channel’s “K.C. Undercover” (8 episodes), and Alicia Banes in The CW’s “Supernatural” (3 episodes). These roles established her presence in popular youth and fantasy television genres. She made her feature film debut in “Mono” in 2016.
More recently, Royster has continued to expand her acting portfolio with significant roles in streaming and network television. She appeared as Jayne in the YouTube Red series “Youth & Consequences” in 2018. From 2021 to 2022, she played Eva in 8 episodes of The CW’s “Dynasty” reboot and also appeared as Janna Croft/Ghost Beam in two episodes of Netflix’s “Jupiter’s Legacy” in 2021. Her film work includes “Unpregnant” in 2020 and “A Party to Die For” in 2022. Upcoming projects include roles in “Don’t Log Off,” “Killer Talent,” and “Bride or Die,” all slated for 2025, and “Amp House Massacre” in 2024. Royster also held a recurring role as Emily in “God Friended Me” (4 episodes) from 2019-2020 and as Valerie Bianco in “CSI: Vegas” (1 episode) in 2022.
