The amazing former professional ice hockey defenceman Ken “Dano” Daneyko played his entire career with the New Jersey Devils of the NHL. Nicknamed “Mr Devil” by the fans, he was also known for his missing front teeth, lost after he was hit in the mouth by a puck. His gap-toothed smile was familiar not only to Devils supporters, but to hockey fans around the world. In 2009 he competed as a pairs figure skater on the CBS reality show, Battle of the Blades, and in 2010, he portrayed himself in the short film Ice Hockey, written and directed by Larry Cohen. Daneyko now provides color analysis during broadcasts of Devils games on the sports channel MSG Plus.
Daneyko was born in Ontario, and raised in Alberta. He had ice hockey in his blood from a young age, and following High School spent several seasons in junior ice hockey, playing for the Yorkton Terriers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, as well as for the Great Falls Americans, the Spokane Flyers, and the Seattle Breakers of the Western Hockey League. He was drafted in the first round of the 1982 NHL Draft to the New Jersey Devils, and was called up to play for them at the start of the 1983-84 season. But he soon suffered an injury and missed 40 games. After he healed, he was assigned to the Kamloops Junior Oilers of the WHL for the remainder of the season. Then in 1985, upon his proper arrival in the NHL, Daneyko quickly established himself as a stay-at-home defenceman, and soon won fans over with his gritty and self-sacrificing play.
Daneyko regularly connects with his legions of adoring fans through Instagram and Twitter, posting pictures and videos about all things ice hockey. He is also available for that personalised shout-out via the Cameo platform.
