About

Kevin Magnussen was born on October 5, 1992, in Roskilde, Denmark. He is the son of former Formula One driver Jan Magnussen. Kevin began his career in karting before moving into junior formulae in 2008, where he immediately showcased his talent by winning the Danish Formula Ford Championship with eleven victories out of fifteen races. His early career also included significant achievements such as finishing runner-up in the Formula Renault NEC in 2009. Magnussen continued his progression through the junior ranks, highlighted by his 2013 Formula Renault 3.5 Series Championship win with DAMS, where he secured five victories and eight pole positions, demonstrating his potential for top-tier motorsport.

Magnussen’s Formula 1 career began in 2014 with McLaren, making an immediate impact by finishing second at the Australian Grand Prix, becoming the first Dane to achieve a podium in F1 on debut. After a year as a reserve driver in 2015, he joined Renault for the 2016 season. He then found a more stable home with Haas, racing from 2017 to 2020. During his initial stint with Haas, Magnussen achieved his best career championship finish of ninth in 2018, showcasing consistent performance. Following a year away in 2021, where he competed in the IMSA SportsCar Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Magnussen made a return to Haas in 2022. This return saw him achieve a significant milestone by securing the team’s first-ever pole position at the Brazilian Grand Prix. His career has been marked by a clear focus on racing, with a reputation for assertive driving.

Throughout his career, Magnussen has engaged with various teams and championships, demonstrating adaptability and a persistent drive to compete. Beyond Formula 1, his participation in endurance racing, such as the IMSA SportsCar Championship where he won the Detroit Classic in 2021 with Cadillac Chip Ganassi Racing, and his upcoming role as a BMW M works driver for their LMDh program in 2025 emphasizes his broad skill set in motorsport. He has accumulated one pole position, three fastest laps, and one podium finish in Formula 1, along with multiple podiums and a victory in sports car racing. His career trajectory highlights a driver committed to performance across different racing disciplines.
