NFL coach Kliff Kingsbury is the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. He coached collegiate Football from 2008 to 2018, and was praised for his efforts in helping to identify quarterback prospects. Kingsbury served as the head coach at Texas Tech, when future superstar Patrick Mahomes earned the Sammy Baugh Trophy, before going on to the NFL MVP award. Kingsbury became the Cardinals’ head coach in 2019, and in 2021, he led them to the playoffs.
On September 12, 2021, Kingsbury steered the Cardinals to a 38-13 victory over the Tennessee Titans, giving them their first away victory of the 2021 NFL season. The Cardinals defeated the Minnesota Vikings at home on September 19, 2021, with a final score of 34-33 thanks to a Vikings field goal attempt that was missed late in the game. This was the fourth time a coach had guided a club to consecutive 2-0 starts, and the sixth time in Arizona Cardinals history that the team opened a season 3-0.
Kingsbury and several other members of the Cardinals coaching staff tested positive for COVID-19 on October 15, 2021, making them ineligible to serve as head coaches for the team’s Week 6 game against the Cleveland Browns. The Cardinals were led to a 37-14 victory by defensive coordinator Vance Joseph and special teams coordinator Jeff Rodgers, who took over as head coaches for the contest. With a regular season record of 11-6 and a playoff loss against the Rams of 11-34, the squad placed second in the NFC West. Kingsbury signed a six-year extension through 2027 on March 2, 2022.
