Kyle Hartzell

During his collegiate tenure at Salisbury, where he played primarily defense, Hartzell recorded 42 caused turnovers and 83 ground balls in his senior year, earning the team’s defensive MVP award and Third Team All-American honors. Hartzell’s professional journey spanned 15 years, from 2008 to 2023, across Major League Lacrosse (MLL), National Lacrosse League (NLL), and the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL). He secured an NLL championship in 2010 with the Washington Stealth and two MLL championships, first with the Chesapeake Bayhawks in 2010 and then with the New York Lizards in 2015. A three-time representative for Team USA, Hartzell earned a bronze medal at the 2011 World Indoor Lacrosse Championship, followed by a silver medal at the 2014 World Lacrosse Championship, and most notably, a gold medal at the 2018 World Lacrosse Championship, showcasing his consistent elite performance on the international stage.

Throughout his illustrious professional career, Hartzell received widespread recognition, including multiple All-Star selections in both MLL and PLL. He was named an MLL All-Star in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2018, and a PLL All-Star in 2019. In 2010, he made history as the first defenseman ever to win the professional Championship Weekend MVP award. Hartzell also holds two MLL records for a defenseman, achieving the most points (21) and most 2-pointers (9) in a single season, both set in 2012.

Following his retirement from professional play in 2023, Kyle Hartzell has transitioned his leadership and expertise into coaching and mentorship. He currently serves as the Head Lacrosse Coach for the University of Texas at Austin, where he guides collegiate athletes in their development. Additionally, Hartzell contributes as an assistant coach and defensive coordinator for the Boston Cannons, continuing to shape the next generation of lacrosse talent with his deep understanding of the game and championship-winning experience.
