Kiran George

Kiran George, born on February 11, 2000, in Kochi, Kerala, India, comes from a family with a strong badminton background. His father, George Thomas, is a former national champion and Arjuna awardee, while his mother, Preetha, was a state-level player. His elder brother, Arun, is also an international doubles specialist. Kiran began his badminton journey at a young age, honing his skills at the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy in Bengaluru. His career progression includes notable achievements, starting with a silver medal in the Under-17 Boys singles at the Asia Youth Championships in 2016.

George secured his first international title at the Ghana International in 2019. This was followed by a victory at the Polish International in 2021, where he defeated Jason Teh. In 2022, he achieved his first BWF World Tour title by winning the Odisha Open, a Super 100 tournament, against Priyanshu Rajawat. The same year, he won the Polish Open, defeating Lee Chia-hao. A significant turning point in his career was in 2023 when he achieved a major upset by defeating then-world No. 1 Shi Yuqi of China at the Thailand Open, a BWF Super 500 event. He further demonstrated his rising potential by winning the Indonesia Masters Super 100 I in 2023 against Koo Takahashi.

In 2025, Kiran George continued to show strong form, notably reaching the quarterfinals of the India Open BWF Super 750, where he was the sole Indian representative in the men’s singles. This performance underscored his growing presence in international badminton, establishing him as a prominent figure in the sport. His career prize money stands at $59,104, reflecting his success and dedication to professional badminton.
