About

Larry Darnell Fitzgerald Jr. was born on August 31, 1983, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. From a young age, Fitzgerald was immersed in the world of football, notably working as a ball boy for the Minnesota Vikings under coach Dennis Green. This early exposure to professional athletes like Cris Carter and Randy Moss provided him with invaluable insights into dedication and work ethic. He attended the Academy of Holy Angels in Richfield, Minnesota, where he excelled in high school football, earning two-time First-team All-State wide receiver honors. Due to NCAA requirements, he spent a year at Valley Forge Military Academy before attending the University of Pittsburgh.

At the University of Pittsburgh, Fitzgerald quickly established himself as a dominant force in college football from 2002 to 2003. He received unanimous All-American honors in 2003, winning the Walter Camp Award and the Biletnikoff Award as the nation’s outstanding receiver. In just two collegiate seasons, Fitzgerald recorded 161 receptions for 2,677 yards and set a new Pitt record with 34 receiving touchdowns. His impressive performance led to him being selected third overall in the 2004 NFL draft by the Arizona Cardinals, where his former mentor Dennis Green was coaching. He went on to play 17 seasons with the Cardinals, solidifying his legacy as one of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history.

Throughout his NFL career, Fitzgerald earned eleven Pro Bowl selections and was named first-team All-Pro in 2008. He is second in NFL career receiving yards and career receptions, and sixth in career receiving touchdowns. Beyond his on-field achievements, Fitzgerald is a respected philanthropist and investor. He established the “Larry Fitzgerald First Down Fund” and the “Carol Fitzgerald Memorial Fund” in honor of his mother, dedicating efforts to youth development, technology access, and breast cancer awareness. After his retirement from professional football in 2022, Fitzgerald transitioned into roles as an ESPN analyst, SiriusXM podcast host, and active venture investor, demonstrating his diverse interests and commitment to various fields.
