Leavitt Zambrano – better known by his stage name Japanese – is a legendary award-winning dancehall reggae artist and songwriter hailing from Panama. He first rose to notoriety after the release of several critically acclaimed albums including Entre Dos Mundos (2005), Te Quiero (2007), Ruffest Hot Man (2013),Crime Family (2015) and El Dia Que Me Quede Ciego (2016) . Zambrano is also famous as a founding member of the Dancehall reggae collective Scare Dem Crew music group, and his larger than life personality and killer tracks have helped Zambrano enjoy a life in the musical spotlight for several decades.
Born in Margarita, Colon in Panama on March 9th 1973, Zambrano began releasing tracks as early as the late 1980’s with the likes of ‘Muerdemolo’. The world sat up and noticed his music with the release of 2005’s explosive long player Entre Dos Mundos, followed by Te Quiero two years later. Over the last decade and a half he has continued to establish himself as one of the most baddest, roughest, toughest and outstanding artists to come out of Panama, and his ongoing popularity is reflected in his impressive social media following which now includes over 420,000 fans following his “japanesepty” Instagram account.
Zambrano has shown no signs of slowing down with the arrival of a new decade, dropping his highly anticipated album Dame Luz on April 5th 2021.
