Lex Horwitz is a queer, non-binary, trans Jew, who has established a career focused on LGBTQIA+ education and advocacy. Their mission, “Education for all,” drives efforts to uplift and support the LGBTQIA+ community through various services and resources. With experience as a keynote speaker, workshop facilitator, and curriculum developer, Horwitz collaborates with universities, non-profit organizations, medical centers, and private businesses. This work involves providing education and resources on LGBTQIA+ identities, topics, and issues, all customized to meet the specific needs of each community and foster inclusive environments.

Horwitz’s early experiences, particularly as a former DIII athlete at Bowdoin College, shaped their commitment to advocacy. When joining the women’s squash team at Bowdoin, Horwitz experienced the impact of gendered language, which negatively affected their mental health. Following personal research on options for trans athletes, Horwitz worked with the institution’s Athletic Director to join the men’s squash team, aligning with their gender identity. This personal journey informed their approach to advocacy, emphasizing the importance of affirming language and inclusive policies. This experience also led to the implementation of gender-inclusive signage in athletic facilities at Bowdoin, marking them as safe spaces.

Since then, Horwitz has expanded their work to include consultation services, developing LGBTQIA+ inclusion trainings and inclusive policies for organizations. They provide custom facilitations, workshops, and presentations, working with community partners such as the Philadelphia School District, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), and The New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). Horwitz advocates for critical thinking about creating affirming and inclusive communities, believing that visibility and open conversations can significantly change lives for the better.
