A four-time gold medalist across three different Olympic games, Libby Trickett is a legendary Australian swimmer who set several world records. She won a total of seven Olympic medals and also saw considerable success at the World Championships and Commonwealth Games.
Trickett’s decorated career began in 2003 at the Australian Championships, later making the trip to Barcelona for the World Championships that same year. She also won the 50-metre freestyle at the Duel In The Pool in the United States, an event at which she would later break a world record. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, she led the 4 x 100-metre freestyle relay team to a gold medal with a record time. During the 2008 games in Beijing, she once again broke the world record in the 100-metre and took home a total of four medals, two of them being gold. While she planned to retire shortly after, she returned for the 2012 London Olympics and took home the 4 x 100-metre gold with her teammates. In addition to her Olympic history, she earned a total of 27 medals at the World Championships, seven medals at the Commonwealth Games, and several other accolades throughout her career.
Following her retirement in 2013, Trickett was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 2016. She published her book Beneath the Surface in 2019 and is a highly sought after speaker and presenter. A mental health advocate, she’s passionate about numerous charities and serves as an ambassador for Beyond Blue and Starlight Children’s Foundation.
