Anthony Kenneth Chisom Watson, born on February 26, 1994, in Ashford, England, began his professional rugby journey at a young age. He attended St George’s College, Weybridge, where he served as vice-captain of the rugby team. His club career started with London Irish, where he made his professional debut in September 2011 against Newcastle Falcons, becoming the youngest player to appear for the club in a Premiership match. By 2012, he had scored his first tries for London Irish against Stade Montois. In 2013, Watson moved to Bath Rugby, where he played a significant role for nearly a decade. During his time at Bath, he contributed to their appearance in the EPCR Challenge Cup final in 2014 and the Premiership final in 2015.
Watson’s international career for England began with his involvement in the U20 team, securing the Six Nations Under 20s Championship in both 2012 and 2013, and winning the IRB Junior World Championship in 2013. He earned his first senior cap for England in 2014, playing against New Zealand. Known for his speed and try-scoring ability, he accumulated 56 caps for his country. He was an integral part of the England squads that won the Six Nations Grand Slam in 2016, and additional Six Nations titles in 2017 and 2020. Watson also represented the British & Irish Lions on tours to New Zealand in 2017 and South Africa in 2021, starting in three Tests during the 2017 tour.
In 2022, Watson joined Leicester Tigers, where injuries limited his playing time. He ultimately announced his retirement from rugby on medical grounds in January 2025.
