Lola Tung, born in New York City in 2002 or 2003, is an American actress, singer, and model. Her mother is of Chinese and Swedish descent, and her father is of Eastern European heritage. Tung began her performing arts journey in middle school, participating in productions of ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ and ‘The Wizard of Oz’. She later attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, graduating in 2020. During high school, she also performed in a production of ‘Rent’ with an extracurricular theater group. After high school, she enrolled in Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Drama Acting and Music Theater in the fall of 2020.
Tung’s career trajectory shifted significantly when she auditioned for and secured the lead role of Isabel “Belly” Conklin in ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ in early 2021, an Amazon Prime Video series based on Jenny Han’s bestselling trilogy. This was her first on-screen role, leading her to take a break from her college studies to film the first season. The show’s success launched her into mainstream recognition, and she subsequently signed with Creative Artists Agency in September 2021. ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ was renewed for a second season, filmed in 2022, and a third season, which faced initial delays due to strikes but aired from July to September 2025. An adaptation of the series into a feature film has also been greenlit.
In 2023, Tung expanded her theatrical experience, performing in ‘Set Me Free’ for The 24 Hour Plays at The Town Hall and participating in workshop readings of ‘Almost Famous’ as Penny Lane at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center in November. A significant milestone in her career was her Broadway debut in February 2024, playing Eurydice in the Tony Award-winning musical ‘Hadestown’ at the Walter Kerr Theatre, replacing Solea Pfeiffer. She performed opposite Jordan Fisher as Orpheus, earning nominations for her performance at the Broadway.com Audience Choice Awards and the iHeartRadio Music Awards. Beyond acting, Tung has engaged in fashion partnerships, becoming the face of Coachtopia in April 2023 and featuring in an American Eagle Outfitters campaign alongside her ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ co-stars.
