Olympic Taekwondo medalist Luisito Pié, who secured a bronze medal for the Dominican Republic at the Rio 2016 Games, first established his competitive prowess in 2013, earning a silver medal at the Bolivarian Games. His dedicated career in Taekwondo began under coach Héctor Rodríguez, training with the Centro de Iniciación Deportiva Escolar (CIDE) following his participation in the 2012 National Elementary School Games. Pié joined the Dominican Navy in 2011 and furthered his professional development by pursuing higher education in Physical Education, initially at Instituto Superior de Formación Docente Salomé Ureña in 2015, and continuing at Universidad Nacional Evangélica in 2016. Building on his early success, Pié went on to win a gold medal at the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games in Veracruz, and another gold at the Pan American Championship in Aguascalientes, Mexico, the same year.
Piés impressive streak continued in 2015 with a silver medal at the Pan American Games in Toronto, a bronze medal at the Military World Games in Mungyeong, and a gold medal at the Morocco Open G1. These achievements culminated in his qualification for the 2016 Summer Olympics, where he made history by earning a bronze medal in the highly competitive 58 kg category. This landmark achievement marked the Dominican Republic’s only medal at the Rio 2016 Games and garnered significant national recognition, including congratulatory messages from then-President Danilo Medina and a substantial award package comprising an apartment and cash from the Minister of Sports. Following his Olympic success, Pié maintained his elite competitive standing on the international stage.
His sustained presence in elite international competitions showcases his unwavering commitment to the sport and his country. As an Olympic medalist and a decorated athlete across numerous prestigious events, Pié continues to embody peak performance and inspire the next generation of martial artists.
