About

Mahmoud Dahoud was born on January 1, 1996, in Amuda, Syria. His family relocated to Germany in 1996. He advanced through the youth ranks at SC Germania Reusrath and Fortuna Düsseldorf before joining Borussia Mönchengladbach’s academy in 2010. By 2014, he had progressed to the senior team. Dahoud made his first-team debut on August 27, 2014, in a Europa League play-off match against FK Sarajevo. His Bundesliga debut followed later that season. During the 2015–16 season, his role expanded significantly at Borussia Mönchengladbach, contributing five goals and nine assists in 32 league appearances as the team finished fourth in the Bundesliga, qualifying for the UEFA Champions League. In the 2016–17 season, he continued to be a key player, scoring his first European goal in the Europa League against Schalke.

In 2017, Dahoud moved to Borussia Dortmund for a reported fee of €12 million. He debuted for Dortmund on August 6, 2017, in the DFL-Supercup. His first Bundesliga goal for the club came on August 26, 2018, against RB Leipzig. During his time at Dortmund, he experienced periods of injury and competition for midfield positions. He scored his first Champions League goal in February 2021 against Sevilla and contributed to Dortmund’s DFB-Pokal victory in the 2020–21 season, providing an assist in the final. After his contract with Borussia Dortmund concluded in 2023, Dahoud joined Brighton & Hove Albion on a free transfer, signing a four-year deal. He made his Brighton debut on August 12, 2023. In February 2024, he was loaned to VfB Stuttgart, where he scored his first goal for the club. In August 2024, he moved to Eintracht Frankfurt on a permanent basis.

Internationally, Dahoud represented Germany at various youth levels, including U18, U19, and U21. He was part of the Germany U21 team that won the 2017 UEFA European Under-21 Championship. He earned his first senior cap for Germany in October 2020 against Turkey. In March 2024, he was called up to the Syria national team, his country of birth, but left the camp prior to making an appearance. He later expressed a desire to return to playing for Germany, though the Syrian FA subsequently stated an agreement for his return to the Syrian national team in June 2025, which did not materialize.
