Marcus Ehning

Born on April 19, 1974, in Südlohn, West Germany, Marcus Ehning began his equestrian journey at the age of seven. Growing up surrounded by horses, he initially developed his skills with horses like Lord, Metal, Starlight, Queen, and Bright Ruby, competing at lower to medium levels. This early exposure laid the foundation for his professional career. His quiet and effective riding technique became a hallmark that set him apart in the sport.

Ehning’s career progression saw significant milestones, starting with successful participation in Pony and Young Rider championships. He achieved early senior success with horses such as Orchidee, Opium, and Talan, securing victories in Nations Cups and Grand Prix events like the Warsaw Grand Prix. A pivotal turn in his career was his partnership with the horse For Pleasure, with whom he achieved numerous top-level victories. His ability to build strong relationships and partnerships with his horses, fostering their development, has been a key factor in his sustained success.

Over the years, Marcus Ehning has accumulated an extensive list of achievements. He won a team gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Summer Olympics. His World Championship successes include a team bronze in Aachen in 2006, a team gold in Lexington in 2010, and a team bronze in Tryon in 2018. At the European Championships, he secured team gold medals in 1999 (Hickstead), 2003 (Donaueschingen), and 2005 (San Patrignano), along with multiple silver and bronze medals in team and individual categories. He also claimed the FEI World Cup™ Final title in 2003 with Anka 191, in 2006 with Sandro Boy, and again in 2010 with Noltes Küchengirl / Plot Blue. He continues to compete at the highest levels, including the Longines League of Nations and the FEI World Cup, and actively trains young horses alongside his competition schedule.
