Ben Maher

Benjamin Richard Maher was born on January 30, 1983, in Enfield, Greater London. He began his equestrian journey at the age of eight, developing skills that would lead to a distinguished career in show jumping. After completing his education at Saffron Walden County High School, Maher honed his craft by training with esteemed riders like Liz Edgar and later with Beat Mandli in Switzerland. His early career saw success with the British Young Riders Team, securing a Team Gold at the European Championships in 2004.

Maher’s rise in the sport included representing Great Britain at multiple Olympic Games, starting with Beijing in 2008. A significant milestone arrived at the 2012 London Olympics, where he earned a team jumping gold medal, marking Great Britain’s first in 60 years. His achievements continued with an individual gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and another team jumping gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics. These accomplishments have solidified his status as one of the most successful British Olympic equestrians.

Throughout his career, Maher has consistently performed at an elite level, winning various international Grand Prix events, including the Olympia Grand Prix and the King George V Gold Cup at Hickstead. He has also been a regular fixture on the British team, achieving a ranking as high as 2nd on the Longines World Rankings.
