The incredible equestrian Ben Maher is a show jumping rider. He is a 2x Olympic Champion, and a European Champion, as well as a World Championships medalist. In 2013 he was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire for services to equestrianism.
Born and raised in London, Maher started riding at the age of eight. After schooling he moved to Switzerland to further his horse education and training. He went on to have success as a young rider, winning Gold at the European Young Rider Championships in 2004 for team jumping. He took part in his first Olympic Games at Beijing in 2008, as well as the World Cup and the European Championships.
Maher claimed his first senior medal at the 2011 European Championships, taking Bronze in team jumping. Since then he has claimed a further four European Championships medals: a second Bronze in team jumping, two Silvers for individual jumping, and Gold in 2013 for team jumping. At his second Olympic Games in London 2012 he took Gold in team jumping. He represented Great Britain again at the 2016 Rio Olympics, and for a fourth time at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics, this time claiming Gold in individual jumping.
