Country music star Matthew Stell is a singer, songwriter and guitarist best known for his 2019 hit track ‘Prayed For You’. The song racked up over 270 million streams and smashed into both the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and Billboard Country Airplay chart, and the accompanying video amassed millions of views on YouTube in the first 10 months. But there’s much more to the talented Stell than one hugely successful track; ‘Everywhere But On’ was another chart-busting single, and he has three critically acclaimed albums already under his belt.
Hailing from Clinton, Arkansas, Stell’s first talent was sport and he won an athletic scholarship to Dury University where he played college basketball. Music was always a huge part of Stell’s life, and in 2014 he was offered a publishing deal with Wide Open Music just weeks before he was due to attend a program at Harvard University’s Extension School.
Stell spent much of the early 2010’s playing gigs (including opening for major artists such as Eric Church and Luke Bryan) and writing music for other artists including the John D. Hale Band and Casey Donahew. After moving to Nashville he released EP Last of Best followed by the single ‘Prayer for You’. The track catapulted the star to massive country music success, becoming the first debut single to top the Billboard Country Airplay chart that year and going on to achieve RIAA Platinum certification.
Named an Artist to Watch by Taste of Country, Stell’s career is now on an unstoppable rise and he looks set to become one of the biggest new stars of Country music.
