Matthew Hayden

Matthew Hayden established himself as a powerful left-handed opening batsman, holding the record for the highest individual score by an Australian in Tests, scoring 380 against Zimbabwe in 2003. This monumental achievement, which stood as the world record for an individual Test innings until 2004 and remains the second-highest in Test history, cemented his status during a dominant fifteen-year career with the Australian national team. Hayden made his Test debut in 1994 and notched his maiden Test century in 1996-97 with 125 runs against West Indies. His aggressive batting style was instrumental in Australia’s ‘golden era’ from 2000 to 2008, contributing significantly to their victories in the ICC Cricket World Cup in both 2003 and 2007.

Hayden has since taken on significant coaching and mentoring roles, serving as the Batting Coach for Pakistan in the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and returning as a team mentor for their 2022 T20 World Cup campaign. Beyond cricket, he has leveraged his passion for cooking by publishing two cookbooks and is a staunch advocate for sun safety, a cause he actively champions due to personal experiences. He also serves as an Ambassador for the Australian Indigenous Education Foundation, continuing his public engagement across various platforms.
