Legendary football manager Maurizio Sarri is the manager of Italian Serie A club Lazio. Sarri has already achieved greatness in his coaching career, becoming the oldest manager to win the Serie A when he guided Italian giants Juventus to the title in 2019. He previously won the UEFA Europa League with English Premier League side Chelsea during his one season at the club, and won several awards whilst managing Napoli, the club of the city of his birth, Naples.
Unlike many successful football managers, Sarri was not a professional footballer although he played as an amateur centre back whilst working as a banker. At the age of 30 he transitioned into coaching, and decided to quit his job as a banker so he could concentrate on his coaching career after being employed by minor side Tegoleto. After coaching several minor sides, he guided Empoli to win promotion to Serie A and helped the side preserve their place in in the top flight, garnering attention from several other clubs in the process.
Sarri signed for Napoli on 11th June 2015 and stayed with the club until 2018 when he left for England to become head coach of Chelsea, becoming the first manager to remain undefeated for his first 12 Premier League matches. The manager lifted his first major trophy with the English side as the Blues won the 2019 UEFA Europa League final against Arsenal. Despite his success at Chelsea, Sarri was lured back to Italy by Juventus and a wish to be closer to his elderly parents. After winning his first major trophy in Italian football with Juventus (Serie A: 2019-20), Sarri brought his expertise to Lazio, signing for the club in June 2021.
