Micky Quinn

Micky Quinn is a retired professional footballer recognized for his prolific goal-scoring career in English football, who has since transitioned into a media career covering horse racing and football. After making his professional debut for Wigan Athletic in 1980, Micky Quinn quickly established himself as a prolific goalscorer in English football. Joining Wigan in September 1979, he turned professional later that season, scoring 19 goals in 69 Fourth Division games before moving to Stockport County in 1982, where he continued his consistent scoring. His impressive form led to a £53,000 transfer to Oldham Athletic in January 1984.

His stellar form prompted Newcastle United to sign Quinn in July 1989 for £680,000. He marked his debut with an extraordinary four goals in a 5–2 victory against Leeds United and concluded the 1989–90 season as the Football League’s top goalscorer with 34 league goals, and 39 goals across all competitions, also earning him the Newcastle United Player of the Year award and a place on the PFA Team of the Year for the 1989–90 Second Division. Following a knee injury in 1991, Quinn transferred to Coventry City in November 1992 for £250,000. He made a significant impact in the Premier League, notably scoring 17 goals in his first six months, including an impressive 10 goals in his first six games.
