About

Monica Keena was born in Brooklyn, New York, on May 28, 1979. From a young age, Keena demonstrated an aptitude for the arts, leading her to enroll in the prestigious LaGuardia High School for acting at 13. Her professional acting career began in 1994 with a small role in her first film, which was quickly followed by television movies such as “A Promise Kept: The Oksana Baiul Story” (1994) and “First Daughter” (1999). Keena secured her first leading role in the film “Ripe” (1996) at the age of 16, a role she considers among her favorites. She gained broader recognition in 1998 for her portrayal of Abby Morgan on The WB’s “Dawson’s Creek,” a role she later chose to leave after feeling she had explored the character sufficiently.

Throughout the 2000s, Keena continued to build a diverse filmography. She took on a significant role as Lori Campbell in the horror crossover hit “Freddy vs. Jason” (2003), which achieved considerable box office success. Her film credits also include “Man of the House” (2005) and “Fifty Pills” (2006). On television, she starred as Rachel Lindquist in Judd Apatow’s “Undeclared” (2001-2002) and had recurring roles as Kristen in HBO’s “Entourage” (2004-2005) and Bonnie Crasnoff in ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” (2005; 2007). Her portrayal in “Grey’s Anatomy” earned her a Gold Derby Award nomination in 2006 for what is considered one of the series’ most iconic episodes.

Keena’s later work includes performances in films like the remake of “Night of the Demons” (2009) and various independent projects. Her career showcases a consistent engagement in both mainstream and independent productions across different genres, from romantic comedies and dramas to horror and television series. Known for her analytical approach to roles and early academic success, Keena has maintained a durable presence in the entertainment industry, with several upcoming projects currently in various stages of production.
